Some people call for the OHSAA to disregard Regions when bracketing the football playoffs. They would prefer that the teams be seeded 1 to 32 based on computer points. There are a number of problems with this suggestion including:
It may take away from regional rivalries
Travel would be a major issue
Computer points are not precise enough to use as a seeding tool
The first round pairings this year would have been:
Cincinnati St. Xavier vs. Lyndhurst
Brush
Lakewood St Ed's vs. Brunswick
Canton McKinley vs. Westerville South
Solon vs. Upper Arlington
Cleveland Glenville vs.Liberty Lakota East
Huber Hts Wayne vs. Worthington Kilbourne
Findlay vs. Newark
Hilliard Davidson vs. Sylvania Northview
Centerville vs. North Canton Hoover
Massillon Washington vs. Columbus Brookhaven
Cincinnati Glen Este vs. Cincinnati LaSalle
Lancaster vs. Fairfield
Cincinnati Colerain vs. Grove City
Toledo St. John's Jesuit vs. North Olmstead
Clayton Northmont vs. Cincinnati Moeller
Gahanna Lincoln vs. Elyria
More importantly, computer points are just not precise enough
to be used as an adequate seeding tool. If you look at each of the eight
four-team buckets that would be used in the seeding process, you can see what
little difference there is between those buckets. (A bucket is 1-4; 5-8; 9-12,
etc.). By moving up or down one or two buckets a team would effectively leapfrog
4 to 8 teams in the seeding process. As the above chart shows, it would be very
easy for teams to jump buckets just by having one team that they beat win one more
game (thereby delivering a handful of additional computer points.) This
difference is just not significant enough to be a basis for scrapping the
current system in favor of the 32-team seeding.

This is just my impression, but it doesn't seem likely that Region 1 (northeast Ohio) should have only 5 teams while Regions 2 & 3 have almost twice as many. My guess would be that this is a case of NE Ohio DI teams playing and beating one another, while the larger schools in Regions 2 & 3 often play teams out of their division. (Just a guess)
